Eric Quincy Tate photo

A founding member of the Eric Quincy Tate band and an artist in his own right, Donnie McCormick was among the early pioneers of Southern Rock , and a global blues music legend. Donnie had an incredible vocal and drumming style unique to himself, and yet to be emulated. He was a mentor and a teacher of musicians, and had an impact and positive influence on musicians and fans alike throughout his life and career.

Donnie was loved to entertain. He was very charismatic and worked hard to captivate his audience. Besides playing a regular drum set, he loved to play his signature instrument, a wooden chicken coop.

Throughout his career, Donnie was also sought after to work with some of the greatest artists and producers of of all time including: The Allman Brothers Band, B.B. King, Dr. John, Wet Willie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, William Bell, Tony Joe White, Tom Dowd, Stevie Hawkins, and Jerry Wexler.

His last live solo album "Donnie McCormick & Friends - 1st Set" was recorded and produced by Stevie Hawkins, and released by Emphasis Records.

Donnie always put his heart and soul into every performance, whether there were ten people in the audience or a ten-thousand. Donnie is greatly missed, but his legacy lives on.

The Donnie McCormick and Friends "1st Set" album is 11 songs recorded during the first set of the historic Eric Quincy Tate group final reunion show, Sept 9, 2006, at Northside Tavern, Atlanta, Georgia.

Prior to Eric Quincy Tate performing their set, the late Donnie McCormick with fellow musicians and friends, began the show getting the audience wound up, having fun jamming, performing original songs, as well as some of their favorite cover tunes. EQT band members Tommy Carlisle and Wayne Sauls are also playing on all of the tracks. These tracks complete the entire night of recordings from the show, to include two bonus Eric Quincy Tate tracks from the same show that do not appear on the new EQT “Thirty Seven” CD.
